PCE-180 CBN is a handheld, portable, battery-powered wire tracer or cable locator that consists of an amplifier probe and acoustic signal or tone generator. This locating device is designed to detect wires or cables hidden behind walls or insulation.
PCE-CL 10 is a cable detector that uses the conductive method to detect metal pipes or pipe tracer wires. With PCE-CL 10, you also can locate power cables, lines, circuits, short circuits and ground points, as well as test protective tubing and coaxial cables. To perform these functions, it is not necessary to disconnect the power. Location can be identified in floors, ceilings, walls and the ground, even behind concrete and brick.

The PCE-CL 20 is a cable detector or locator used to detect live and voltage-free electrical wires. This cable detector also can be used to locate metallic and non-metallic gas or water pipes, identify short circuits, and follow lines inside walls or under flooring.
What is a cable finder?
As the name suggests, a cable locator is an auxiliary tool for the electrical installer to search for and find the installed and laid cables in the buildings as well as in the ground.
The cable finders usually consist of two devices: a signal generator and a receiving device. The signal generator modulates a signal on the voltage-free or live line that is to be sought. The receiving part, the cable finder, receives this signal via built-in sensors and shows the reception strength via a display and / or an acoustic signal.
So, it looks like that: the higher the signal deflection / the louder the signal tone is, the closer one is to the searched line. Line locators of this type can be used for many different applications. Thus, short circuits can be located or also the boundary wires for the lawnmower robots.
In addition to the operating mode with a galvanically connected transmitter, the cable locators can find connection cables that are live. The cable finder then detects the electromagnetic field, which spreads out in a ring around each electrical conductor that is live. These simple cable locators often find their application during household renovations.
A fundamental difference between cable finders for indoor applications is the possibility of using the cable finder on live or voltage-free lines. Cable finders for voltage-free lines are often used in the assignment and matching of line pairs in telephone and network technology before the cables are patched. Cable finders, which can be used for live cables, are used to conduct the power cables and already laid cables or to locate the cable breaks / short circuits.
These two types of line locators are normally used for the indoor cable localization. They can also be sometimes used outdoors. Special cable finders for the outdoor area have additional functions that are better suited for gardening and landscaping or other civil engineering works. This cable finder can also easily locate the lines that are operated without voltage and without a transmitter if they are longer than 100 m.
