Air Sampler

The air sampler of PCE is used for microbiological examination of the air during the inspection of the microbiological contamination indoors in all rooms under the experts’ supervision and in biology, in clean rooms in the pharmaceutical industry, in hygienically sensitive production areas and equipment in the food industry and its suppliers, in medical environments with higher requirements or also in hygiene tests of air conditioning systems (HVAC).

The particle collector absorbs a defined volume of air that is directed to various growth media for cultivation. The microbial components of the air sample are qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed. In addition, the relevant types or kinds of the present molds are determined.

Molds that represent a health risk, as well as fungal species with indication for material damage are highlighted. The samples are analyzed by an independent laboratory. The air sampler or even particle collector provides information about whether and to what extent the mold spores and bacteria strains are present and what types occur primarily. The measurement is simple and can be carried out without prior preparation.

Microbial Air Measurement

By means of microbial air measurement the concentration of germable spores and hyphae fragments that are in the air is measured. The sampling is carried out via a microbial air aggregating device that operates in impaction. The microbial air aggregating device sucks a certain amount of air through a suction device and secretes the airborne spores through a sieve on the underlying growth medium in an agar plate. One should not ventilate the affected room for about 12 hours before the microbial air measurement and make sure no dust is raised up.

Air particle measurement

Air particle measurement registers live and dead components of the mold and also provides information on the other substances transported in the air such as mineral fibers, pollens, algae, etc. For the air particle measurement a certain amount of the indoor air is sucked in by a measuring instrument. The sucked indoor air is directed through a suction device (slit impactor) on the holder coated with an adhesive material. Because of the fact that a sample also registers the dead parts of a fungus, a conclusion can be made about a former fungal infestation. Therefore, this method is suitable for a quality control after a mold remediation and in the case of prophylactic examination before the real estate purchase.
