A heat meter, or thermal energy meter, is an instrument used to measure the amount of heat produced and transferred by a heating system. The flow sensor measures the amount of water flowing through the system, while the temperature sensor detects the temperature difference between the incoming and outgoing water. Based on this data, the heat meter calculates the amount of heat transferred in kilowatt hours (kWh) or megajoules (MJ).
The installation of heat meters is particularly common in apartment buildings and building complexes because they enable fair and accurate billing of heating costs. By measuring heat consumption individually, residents can be charged according to their actual consumption. This also encourages the conscious use of energy and can lead to a reduction in overall energy consumption.
In addition, heat meters are an important tool for optimising heating systems. By providing detailed data on energy consumption, they enable operators to evaluate the efficiency of their systems and make adjustments if necessary to reduce energy consumption and optimise operating costs.
